Push to be 'the best' makes firm a global player

STRIVING to be ‘the best in class’ was what it took for Globetronics Technology Bhd in Penang to transform itself from a local small and medium-scale company to a global products supplier.

Its chief executive office (CEO) Heng Huck Lee said the company strived to be ‘the best in class’ in the services and products that it provided as well as maintaining control on its growth.

“Globetronics was a small and medium enterprise (SME) start-up which dared to dream big.

Heng’s presentation was the second of the USM-CEO talk series held to provide a platform for CEOs to share their experiences and future direction of the industry, business market and global economy.

Heng, who is also Free Industrial Zone, Penang, Companies Association president, said they has to work closely with their customers while anticipating changes in technology, products and if there was a market shift.

“We are involved in technology where change is the only constant.

“We also needed to continue re-inventing by partnering with both old and new customers,” he said.

He added that if customers were not happy, then it meant that they were not doing enough and not fit to be in the industry.

He also advised companies to leverage on their partners who could be the shareholders, board of directors, customers, suppliers or employees.

Globetronics has been manufacturing and providing services for electronics-related products since the 1990s.

In her speech, USM deputy vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Susie See Ching Mey said the talk series served as a platform where theory met practice.

“We could learn the state of the art manufacturing capabilities and business strategies from leaders and entrepreneurs with business acumen.

“We will continue to invite leaders in the manufacturing and services industry in the region to discuss their needs and expectations so that USM will be the talented manpower supplier of choice to the industries,” she said.
