GLOBETRONICS Technology Sdn Bhd brought cheer to the Penang Down Syndrome Association (PDSA) which is planning to introduce vocational training programme for its members.

The company sponsored RM10,000 to the association for the 1km charity walk in conjunction with Penang Starwalk 2011 which was held on Sept 18.

Its human resource manager Ng Kok Choong said the sponsorship was in line with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

“We found it meaningful to participate in the charity walk.

“Our employees took part in a healthy lifestyle and at the same time, the
PDSA Cheque Pix 2company is giving back to society through the sponsorship,” he said after the presentation of RM10,000 mock cheque to association chairman Sharifah Daud.

Also present were Globetronics executive chairman Michael Ng and The Star regional operations manager (north) Chung Chok Yin and advertisement manager (north) Simone Leong.

A total of 110 employees of the Globetronics took part in the walk including Kok Choong and other top executives.

The Star, along with seven firms, contributed a total of RM110,000 to 10 charities in the state in conjunction with Penang Starwalk 2011.

Sharifah said the sponsorship would come in handy as the association was planning to buy sewing machines, computers, projectors and other educational aids.

“We are introducing the programme to teach our members skills which will serve them a lifetime,” she said.

She called on the public to serve as volunteers at the association’s centre on
 Lebuhraya Rose, Pulau Tikus.

“Among others, the volunteers can give a helping hand in teaching, training, care-giving and in the daily running of the centre,” she said.

The association serves 40 individuals with Down Syndrome from various age groups.
